A finding suggesting a serious medical condition requiring referral.
What are common red flags PTs must recognize?
Chest pain, shortness of breath, neurological deficits, unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, bowel/bladder changes.
What are cardiac risk factors?
Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking, family history, obesity, age (M>45, F>55), sedentary lifestyle.
What vitals must be collected in CCPE?
HR, BP, RR, SpO2, pain level.
What is normal adult HR?
60–100 bpm.
What is normal adult BP?
<120/80 mmHg.
What is normal adult respiratory rate?
12–20 breaths/min.
What is normal adult SpO2?
95–100%.

0–10 numeric rating.
What screening exam must be performed on ALL cases?
Upper Quarter OR Lower Quarter screen depending on patient report.

Neck, shoulder, arm symptoms or unclear complaint.

Low back, hip, leg symptoms or unclear complaint.

C-spine AROM, dermatomes, myotomes, reflexes, UE strength, UE sensation.

L-spine AROM, dermatomes, myotomes, reflexes, LE strength, LE sensation.
What are the UE myotome tests?
C5: abduction, C6: elbow flexion/wrist extension, C7: elbow extension, C8: finger flexion, T1: finger abduction.
What are the LE myotome tests?
L2: hip flexion, L3: knee extension, L4: dorsiflexion, L5: great toe extension, S1: plantarflexion.
What are common UE dermatomes?
C5 lateral arm, C6 thumb, C7 middle finger, C8 pinky, T1 medial forearm.
What are common LE dermatomes?
L3 medial knee, L4 medial ankle, L5 dorsum of foot, S1 lateral foot.
What reflexes are tested in UQ screen?
Biceps (C5-6), brachioradialis (C6), triceps (C7).
What reflexes are tested in LQ screen?
Patellar (L3-4), Achilles (S1-2).
When should you include a balance screen?
If patient history or age suggests fall risk or impaired balance.
