Helps improve sleep, energy levels, mood, cognitive function, wellbeing, reduces vulnerability to stress and depression

adequate sleep refers to getting the good quantity and quality sleep, and waking feeling refreshed. Enables individuals to function during day, cope with stress, increasing enjoyment of life due to high energy, experience less and improve concentration
Cognitive Behavioural Strategies
refers to techniques drawn from CBT to identity, assess and correct faulty patterns of thinking or problem behaviours that may negatively impact mental wellbeing, with the aim to promote resilience

a spiritual and healing practice in which a person focuses their attention on their breathing, with thoughts, feelings and sensation being experienced freely, and accepting them as they arise and without judgement. Promotes relaxation, distracts from negative thoughts which can lead to anxiety and depression

social support that is authentic and energising refers to the assistance, care or empathy provided by family, friends and the community to help cope with stressors

refers to the way of life of a particular group, society or community
Cultural Determinants
protective factors that help maintain strong connections to culture, strengthen cultural identity, exercise their cultural rights and responsibilities and enhance resilience that contribute to the maintenance of good mental wellbeing
Cultural Continuity
refers to the practice and passing down of cultural knowledge, traditions and values (e.g. via songlines) from generation to generation. Cannot be supported without self-determination
Self Determination
refers to First Nations people’s rights to freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development without outside interference
