Central Tendency
The number in the middle/center of a distribution that represents the entire group (mean/median/mode)
Mode
The most commonly occurring value in a data set
Mean Advantages
-Commonly used
-More stable across different samples
-It has a formula
Mean Disadvantages
-You need equal spacing for the data to be accurate
-Biased by outliers
-May not actually an observed value in data set
Median Avantages
-Uninfluenced by extreme scores
-Describes ordinal data better
Median Disadvantages
-More difficult to use in formulaic calculations
-May not actually be an observed value in the data set
Mode Advantages
-Always reflects like a real and likely outcome
-Useful for nominal data
Mode Disadvantages
-Can be inconsistent indicator for central tendency
Weighted Mean
When one sample makes a larger contribution to the total group
