Blocks protein synthesis → bacteriostatic, high doses bactericidal

Treats:

Penicillin-allergic infections

Strep

Whooping cough

Diphtheria

Chlamydia

A

GI upset: N/V

Prolonged QT → dysrhythmias

Ototoxicity: tinnitus, veritgo, hearing loss

A

“MACRO = Big QT + Big GI”

Big QT: prolonged QT risk

Big GI: strong stomach upset

Also think:
“THRO” drugs can affect the THROat (strep), and cause ear (OTO) problems.
