Q

how has colonization affected languages spoken? modern day

A

European powers (Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium) imposed their own languages for government, education, trade, and religion.

Indigenous languages were often suppressed, banned, or pushed into private/family use.

After independence, many former colonies kept the colonial language as an official language to avoid favouring one ethnic group over another.
