Hydraulic Action (physical)
Pressure - Air trapped in cracks & holes in rock.
Crashing wave compresses air, driving it further into rock and splitting the rock.
Abrasion (physical)
Sandpaper - Waves throw material against the rocks and cliffs causing it to gradually wear down.
Attrition (physical)
Break to smaller pieces - Rocks carried by the water, roll back and forth against each other, slowly breaking into smaller pieces.
Corrosion (chemical)
Dissolves - Acidic sea water dissolves/corrodes soluble material within the rock.
Water chemically breaks down the rock.
