overtime people will try to avoid the area eroded, walking around the eroded path makes the path wider. a worn path can often act like a channel for water and can cause greater erosion
conflict 2 - farmers vs tourists (gates)
in Rothiemurcus estate, hillwalkers/mountain bikers leaves gates open so livestock can escape. visitors wanting to see highland cows
conflict 3 - tourists vs wildlife (dogs)
dogs not on lead can disturb nesting birds and animals and sometimes kills them.
conflict 4 - tourists vs tourist (litter/overcrowding)
loch Morlich attracts lots of people and act as a honeypot. the overcrowding in the cairngormns can increase litter near honeypots, off road parking causes damage to the verge and there can be conflicts between mountain bikers and hillwalkers as they can collide.
conflict 5 - locals vs tourists (housing)
lack of affordable housing, people out with the area are buying holiday homes or retirement homes, this pushes people out of the area
conflict 6 - tourists vs locals (traffic)
traffic congestion and traffic hazards makes it difficult for local shopping in tesco Aviemore.
solution 1 - footpath erosion
1 - hillside in zigzag formation to prevent water runoff
2- cairngorm people arent allowed out in summer from the somet cafe, people are allowed out on a balcony as it reduces a low impact on land
3. stone patching, helicopters fly in stones and volunteers place the stone in at angles providing steps.
4. gullies are places across the footpath to divert the water away
solution 2 - (gates)
self closing gates have been installed as they give access to walkers and it prevents animals escaping.
the hairy coo safari is a guided tour by rangers, it stops people from wandering around
solution 3 - (dogs)
visitors are advised to keep their dogs on leads. at the car park they provide a large open area fenced so visitors can let their dogs roam freely
solution 4 - (litter and overcrowding)
removing bins can encourage people to take their litter home.
making more car parks to avoid damages and charging £2 can be efficient as the money goes towards tourist information leaflets.

all new housing developments given the go ahead in the national park must give a % to affordable housing.
