Subordinating Conjunctions
Subordinating Conjunctions
They join a dependent clause (not complete alone) to an independent clause.
Common ones:
because, although, while, when, after, before, since, unless, if, as, whereas, even though, until
Examples:
I stayed home because I was sick.
Although she is tired, she will continue working.
Call me when you arrive.
Tip to identify them: If you remove the main clause → the sentence becomes incomplete.
Correlative Conjunctions
These always come in pairs.
either … or
You can either call me or send me a message.
neither … nor
She likes neither football nor basketball.
both … and
Both Messi and Ronaldo are legends.
not only … but also
He is not only intelligent but also hardworking.
whether … or
Whether we win or lose, we will celebrate.
