Q

Example of coordination in animals

A
  • Red blood cells transport oxygen effectively, but have no nucleus
  • Haematopoietic stem cells maintain constant supply of red blood cells to body
  • Muscles contract when supplied with consistent oxygen to complete aerobic respiration

Q

Example of coordination in plants:

A
  • Flowering needs to coordinate with seasons
  • Pollinators coordinate with plants
  • Temperature climates light-sensitive chemicals enable plants to coordinate development with lengthening days which signal approach of spring and summer.

Q

Homeostasis:

A
  • In large multicellular organisms, different organs have different functions
  • Functions of different organs must be coordinated to maintain a relatively constant internal environment

Q

Cell signalling:

A
  • One cell releases a chemical which has an effect on the target cell
    • Transfer signals locally –> between neurones at synapses (neurotransmitter)
  • Transfer signals across large distances, using hormones.
