The Interpretation Act
The Interpretation Act is statute law at both the federal and provincial government levels.
* The expression “shall” is to be construed as imperative and the expression “may” as
permissive
* For the purposes of arrest, a hybrid offence is considered to be indictable until Crown
election is made
* Words in the singular include the plural, and words in the plural include the singular
* Words importing male persons include female persons and corporations
