What is neurodiversity and what are the benefits?

A

Neurodiversity: Different ways the brain works and interprets information.
15% of population are neurodivergent and 72% of UK’s employers ignored neurodiversity in policies.
Common conditions: ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia.
Benefits/skills: Creativity, memory, innovation, productivity and different perspectives.
Neurodiverse sensitive to lighting, colour, patterns and noise in office.

What do tenants need to think about regarding DEI?

A
  • Illegal for landlords and tenants to discriminate against occupiers
  • Need to make reasonable adjustments to help disabled people who would otherwise be disadvantaged
  • Alterations to a building may be needed to avoid discrimination, but should be reasonable in costs, extent and disruption. Otherwise, provide alternative access to service.
