Why do we care about developmental milestones?
If a child missed milestones that can indicate they are developmentally delayed
4 months - Developmental Milestones
Lifts Head
(Story: Alarm goes off, you LIFT your HEAD, see its 4 am so you go back to sleep.)
6 months - Developmental Milestones
Raises trunk, Reaches, Rolls, Raking Grasp, Hand-Mouth, Sits (Propping)
(Story: Alarm goes off at 6 am, you RAISE your HEAD and TRUNK up, REACH, and RAKE GRAB your phone, ROLLOVER & Give it a KISS for waking you up on time. Then you SIT UP PROPPING with your arms because you’re groggy.)
12 months - Developmental Milestones
Lying to Sitting, Sits without Propping, Crawling, Stands (Holding)
(Story: You need to your morning exercises. You do 12 reps of SITUPS with your ARMS FOLDED. You’re so tired you CRAWL to the side of the bed and HOLD onto the bed to STAND UP. You start to WALK, STEADYING YOURSELF on furniture as you go.)
18 months - Developmental Milestones
Squats to pickup, walks well, uses cup/spoon
(Story: As you’re walking, you knock your high school diploma - 18 when you got it - off the wall. You SQUAT and PICK IT UP, then remember WALKING across the stage WITHOUT TRIPPING while stirring a CUP OF TEA.)
2 years - Developmental Milestones
Climbs up/down furniture, stairs (holding), jumps, runs, kicks
“2 sets of 2” - High/Low & Fast/Slow
3 years - Developmental Milestones
Catches large ball, pedals tricycle, dresses min A
“Thr-easy”, Three strikes you’re out, TRIcycle, and 3/4 dressed
4 years - Developmental Milestones
Stand 1 foot, begins skip/hop, stairs alternating feet
“FOUR-dinated”
5 years - Developmental Milestones
IND toileting, dressing
“High Five for being independent”
