2
Q

Where do particles go in diffusion ?

A

Particles go from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration until they are evenly spread out.

Q

How does temperature affect diffusion ?

A

When it is hotter the particles have more kinetic energy and they diffuse more quickyl

Q

How does concentration affect diffusion ?

A

The greater the difference in concentration the faster diffusion will take place

Q

How does surface area affect diffusion ?

A

If particles are diffusing through a surface, a larger surface will have more space for particles to diffuse through

Q

How can we measure the rate of diffusion ?

A

Jelly cubes are prepared with phenolpthalein indicator. They contain sodium hyroxide to make them pink.
When placed in acid, the acid will diffuse into the cube.
The quicker the cube goes colourless the faster the rate of diffusion.
you could also measure the distance the acid diffuses in a particular time.

Q

How do particles move in a solid ?

A

In a solid particles are touching and in fixed positions. They can vibrate but not move out of their fixed positions

Q

How do particles in a liquid move ?

A

Particles in a liquid are close together but arranged randomly and can slide over each other. They do not move far

Q

How do particles in a gas move ?

A

Particles in a gas are arranged randomly and are far apart. They move quickly and travel long distances. They constantly hit each other and the container causing them to change direction
