Duty Flashcards

1
Q

Luke 17, 10

A

We are unprofitable servants, we have done what we were obliged to do.

Here’s a compact memory device for Luke 17:10:

“Seventeen-year-old Luke gave God a ten out of ten.”
• 17 → reminds you of Luke 17
• 10 → reminds you of verse 10
• “Gave God a ten out of ten” → links to the message of humble, complete obedience:
“We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.”

Every time you see 17:10, think:
A 17-year-old servant giving God a 10 out of 10—faithful, not boastful.

Q

Leviticus 11, 44

A

I, the Lord, I’m your God. You shall make and keep yourselves holy, because I am holy.

(This is the chapter about ritual purity, and cleanliness, but it applies to spiritual and moral purity for us.)

Here’s a clean lock that sticks.

Leviticus 11:44
• 11 → two straight lines
Like two people standing face-to-face.
You and God.
• 44 → two chairs.
You sit.
God sits.
A meeting.

Now link it:

You and God sitting face to face.
Talking about one thing: holiness.

That gives you:

Leviticus 11:44 —
God and me, face to face, about holiness.

Say it fast

“Eleven forty-four.
Face to face.
Be holy.”

Add the verse

“I am the Lord your God.
Be holy, because I am holy.”

Test it

What does 11:44 show you?

Two people.
Two seats.
One holy God.

You see it now, right?

We are unprofitable servants. We have done what we were obliged to do.

A

Luke 17:10

7 “Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? 8 Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? 9 Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

  • Humble service. God doesn’t owe us anything.
