effects mental health, they are more likely to kick off, low self esteem stigmatised (may feel labelled with a sense of disapproval) loneliness (others might see them differently) people might think they have a lack of abilities so they might be offered less opportunities parents may feel they have failed which will lead to parent being more negative to child

encouraging independence increasing motivation and confidence improving academic outcomes- feel more motivated and encourages children to do so creating a culture of achievement- so they feel rewarded
