Short acting, non barbiturate hypnotic without analgesic activity
Produces levels of CNS depression from light sleep to coma depending on dose
Indications
Induction to general anesthesia
Induction prior to other anesthetics
Contraindications
Allergy
Pregnancy / Delivery
Lactation
Pt < 10 years of age
Adult Dose
0.3 mg/kg IV
Over 30 - 60 seconds
Pediatric > 10 years of age Dose
Same as adult
Special Considerations
Pt may awaken rapidly without further administration of anesthetics
Can suppress adrenal hormone synthesis
