If we are held high, after which we need to get down, what can we do?

A

It will show VNAV ALT or ALT HOLD
Alt intervene
Should get VNAV SPD or if cannot open speed window - put in FMC

Once we get VNAV PTH, select econ
This will show drag required
- if far out, let speed bleed off or use speed brake if close
-within 25nm use LVL CHG

A

When levelling off to an alt below.

Set alt
Deselect ILS freq
LNAV
V/S (at or less than GP - do not drop under Glide Path)
180k
“Go-around”
F15 (check if we are already F15)
Gear up
Check roll mode and alt
F5 (stay at this flap and speed for now)

If high on base leg, how can you tell how high you are?

A

If at 4000ft
Add 5nm + 10nm final etc (might have less mileage which would mean you’re higher)

e.g. from above 15nm X 3 = 4500ft so we’re ok.

If 5nm + 7nm final etc = should be at 3600; so we would be high.

If we needed to do a GA at 1800ft and the level off alt is 2000ft, what would you do?

A

Man Flight, Man Thrust and just fly it.

1500ft or less - use TOGA with A/T engaged.

A

Increase speed until VNAV PTH is back then press econ and let the speed bleed back (if we have distance) or use speed brake to decrease speed.
