how to conduct a flame test
1) Clean a platinum or nichrome wire (because they are unreactive) by dipping it into concentrated HCL (hydrocholoric acid)
2) Place the wire into a bunsen burner blue flame
3) If the flame does not remain blue, then the wire is not clean and we clean it again by dipping it into concentrated HCL
If the flame remains blue, the wire is clean and we dip it into the HCL and into your sample
5) Place the wire into the flame to observe the colour
