How to test for hydrogen
Put a burning (on fire) splint into the gas, if it produces a squeaky pop sound, then it is hydrogen
How to test for oxygen
Place a glowing (burnt but blown out) splint into the gas, if it relights then the gas is oxygen
How to test for carbon dioxide
Bubble the gas through limewater, if it turns from colourless to cloudy then it is carbon dioxide
How to test for ammonia
Place damp red litmus paper into the gas, if it turns blue then the gas is ammonia
How to test for chlorine
Place damp litmus paper into the gas, if it turns white then the gas is chlorine
