Singleton- if uncomplicated till 28/40
- fit to fly letter may be needed most airlines ok to 36
- multiple 32/40

Remember advise about stay active, stocking, hydration, notes,
- ensure insurance cover

Previous VTE/dvt

A
  • offer Single dose DOAC- rivaroxiban or LMWH for flights >4 hours for every 24 hours of travel
  • one there and one on return
  • stocking, hydration, calf movement, no alcohol

DOAC often better as no sharps

Look at UK civil aviation authority

Ensure airline aware of situation

Final decision to take patient is up to airline

Cardiovascular disease

A

MI- 7-10 days if uncomplicated
- if PCI successful 3days

Angina - stable no restriction

Heart surgery- major 10 days
CABG- 10-14 days

Heart failure- need to be stable and no SOB may require oxygen

Symptomatic valvular disease- contraindication to fly

CVA- 10 days , maybe 3 days

A

Asthma- if controlled
COPD- need to be able to walk 50m no SOB. May require oxygen
Pneumothorax- 7 days after resolution
