Why is setting goals helpful when planning a PDP (3)
(Why is it important to set goals before a training programme?)
-track an monitor progress. Meaning performers can assess hoe effective their development plan is by seeing if they have reached their goals… if they have found that they are reaching their goals then it can give them a confidence boost and set even higher goals in the future to ensure they don’t have a plateau.
What is the acronym for setting goals for the physical, mental, social and emotional
S M A R T
Specific
Measurable
Adjustable
Realistic
Time
Explain what a performer may consider when setting goals for the physical factor
(4)
(Just adapt to which factor the question gives)
Specific and not as a general statement- can focus more closely on a certain element of their physical weakness and give them a clear aim which can leave them to improving that area.
-adjustable and not set in stone. This means that illnesses and injury can be took into account and can be taken into consideration and be amended to better suit the performer
What is a long term goal?
Goal set over a pro-longed period of time
What is a short term goal?
They are goals in which have a shorter duration of time
Eg. By next training session
What is a short term goal for the mental factor
by the end of todays visualisation session, i want to clearly imagine myself staying tight to my opponent in 3 defensive situations
What’s a short term goal for the physical factor
by the end of todays weight training session, i want to have squatted at least 3 reps at 90% of my one rep max
What’s a short term goal for the social factor
by the end of todays team building session, which was a human knot, i want to have given my teammates at least 3 points of positive feedback and encouragement.
What’s a short term goal for the emotional factor
by the end of todays deep breathing session, i want to let go of my anger at a referee within 5 breathes
What’s a long term goal for the emotional factor
by the end of my 6 week PDP i want to control my anger when the referee makes a decision i disagree with in hockey so i can walk away without arguing and avoiding a green card.
What’s a long term goal for the mental factor
by the end of my 6 week PDP i want to be able to decrease the amount of anxiety i have in a hockey game by reducing my SCAT test score from 18 to 13 by doing controlled deep breathing
What’s a long term goal for the physical factor
by the end of my 6 week PDP, i want to improve my agility in hockey so my Illinois agility test score decreased from 18.5 seconds to 18 seconds, so that i can dummy players in hockey
What’s a long term goal for the social factor
By the end of my 6 week development plan i want to become more of a team player and support my teammates rather than criticising them when they make a mistake
Why set goals (4)
-identifies strengths and weaknesses. This creates a PDP relevant to the weakness
-provides a baseline measurement (starting point). Compare re-test results later to measure your progress
-use the results to set realistic goals. Motivation boost and give 100% in sessions
-gives each training session a specific focus. This can help track and monitor progress
