A

Duty to every employer to ensure the safety of all employees.

  1. Frequently review risk assessment (legal requirement)
    - Hazard: potential to cause harm
    - Risk: probability someone will be harmed

What is asbestos, where is it commonly found?

A

It is a fire resistant material that can cause health problems, when disturbed it releases fibres that can get into lungs. There is blue, brown and white.

Commonly found in properties built before 2000, around pipes, boilers.

What are dutyholders obliged to do with asbestos?

A

Under control of asbestos regulations:
A duty holder must assess whether premises contain asbestos. Through survey (all work must be undertaken by licensed contractor):
- Management: locate, assess & advise
- Demolition: sample

Product management plan (to manage safely and only remove where poses a risk) & asbestos register (all properties have this)

A
