What is hydronephrosis?
A condition in which obstruction to urine flow downstream results in hydrostatic dilation of the renal pelvis and calyces
Describe the pathophysiology of hydronephrosis
Back pressure (any obstruction, stone, tumour) → collecting system continues to dilate and renal parenchyma becomes atrophic
How is hydronephrosis managed?
Removal of obstruction and drainage of accumulated urine
