You are under vectors and have just called visual and ATC has responded with “ROLR XX, cancel IFR fly VFR”, what does this mean?

Effectively this means that you are no longer IFR but ATC needs you to remain under their control and comply with their vectors, however you are now responsible for terrain clearance, separation from their aircraft and you cannot fly into cloud. You are not cleared visual approach, long story short this isn’ good, don’t call visual until you are completely ready and going into cloud is not a threat.

• When checking height you make an assessment as to if you will be able to recover before hitting LSALT
• On recovery before OOOs but once set S+L hit the HDG bug to align with the nose

If inbound on 350 radial = -200 + 20 = 170
If inbound on 040 radial = +200 -20 = 220
