Q

What are T/O Minimums for a Standard Instrument Rating?

A
  • Published minimums for the available non-precision approach but not less than 300-1

If the aircraft has compatible equipment for a precision approach:
* Weather is at least equal to the precision approach minimums for the landing runway in use but in no case is lower than 200-1/2

7
Q

What change are helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft allowed to do in regards to approach weather minimums?

A

They may reduce the published visibility by 1/2 but will be no lower than 1/4-mile or 1200ft RVR

This does not apply to COPTER approaches

Q

What is the approach criteria for multipiloted aircraft?

A

When the reported weather is at or below published weather minimums for the approach:

  • The approach shall not be commenced in multipiloted aircraft unless the aircraft has the capability to proceed to a suitable alternate in the event of a missed approach.

Q

What is the criteria for continuing instrument approaches to a landing?

A

Pilots shall not descend below the prescribed MDA or continue an approach below the DH unless:

  • They have the runway environment in sight

AND

  • In their judgement a safe landing can be executed

Q

What are the rules for practice approaches?

A

The provisions of this section are not intended to preclude a single-piloted aircraft from executing practice approaches at a facility where weather is reported below the published weather minimums.

  • The facility in question must not be filed destination or alternate AND the weather at the filed destination and alternate must meet the filing criteria for an instrument clearance

A practice approach is an approach where no landing is intended

Q

What are the rules for logging instrument time?

A
  • Actual instrument time: logged by both pilots during flight in actual instrument conditions
  • Simulated instrument time: logged only by the pilot actually manipulating the controls

14
Q

What is the rule for logging instrument approaches?

A

Only the pilot exercising principal active control during the approach may be credited with that approach

When flying in actual IMC, the instructor shall also recieve credit for an actual instrument approach

Q

What shall the PIC be familiar with in regards to pre-flight planning?

WANT AF

A
  • WX reports/forecasts
  • Alternative if flight cannot be completed as planned
  • NOTAMs
  • TFRs
  • Anticipated traffic delays
  • Fuel

PIC & Mission Commander shall also conduct a risk assessment prior to the flight

17
Q

What are the PIC responsibilities for submitting a flight plan?

AAF WIPWR

A

When submitting a flight plan, the PIC is responsible for the following items:
* Authorized flight
* Adequate flight planning has been done
* Flight will be conducted in accordance with the governing directives
* WX briefings have been provided to each pilot
* Instrument rating for each pilot
* Passengers have been properly breifed and manifested
* Weight-and-balance has been completed
* PIC recognizes the responsibilit for the safe and orderly completion of the flight

18
Q

What are the CNAF 3710 Minimum Fuel Requirements?

A

All aircraft shall carry sufficient usable fuel considering all WX factors and mission requirements:

  1. If alternate is not required, fuel to fly from T/O to destination airfield + a reserve of 10% of planned fuel requirements.
  2. If alternate is required, fuel to fly from T/O to the IAF at your destination airport and thence to an alternate airport + a reserve of 10% of planned fuel requirements
  3. In no case shall the planned fuel reserve after the final landing at the destination or alternate be less than need for 20 mins of flight (for turbine powered helicopters, compute fuel consumption based on operation at planned flight altitude)
  4. NATOPS minimum fuel reserve requirements (225lbs per main fuel tank for MH-60S)
19
Q

How long are WX briefings valid for?

A

Valid for 3 hours from briefing/delivery time OR ETD + 30mins

20
Q

What is the WX criteria for filing a flight plan?

A

Flight plans shall be based on the following:

  • Actual weather at the departure airport at the time of clearance
  • Existing and forecasted weather along the route of flight
  • Forecasted weather at your destination and alternate airport ±1 hr of your ETA
21
Q

What is the alternate airport filing weather criteria?

A

If destination weather is 3000 - 3 or better:

  • No alternate is required

If the destination weather is from the published minimums up to but not including 3000 - 3:

  • The alternate weather must be the weather for the published approach minimums + 300-1 (for non-precision) or + 200-1/2 (for precision)

If the destination weather is 0-0 up to but not including the published minimums:

  • The alternate weather must be 3000 - 3 or better
22
Q

Crew Resource Management (CRM) Definition

A

Behavioral skills that will increase mission effectiveness by minimizing crew preventable errors, maximizing coordination, and optimizing risk management

23
Q

What are the CRM skills?

DAMCLAS

A
  • Decision making
  • Assertiveness
  • Mission Analysis
  • Communication
  • Leadership
  • Adapability/flexibility
  • Situational awareness
24
Q

What is the 5 Step ORM process?

I-AM-IS

A
  1. Identify hazard
  2. Assess hazards
  3. Make risk decisions
  4. Implement controls
  5. Supervise
25
What are the three levels to ORM?
1. Time critical 2. Deliberate 3. In-Depth
26
What are the four principles of ORM?
1. Accept risk when benfits outweigh the costs 2. Accept no unncessary risk 3. Anticipate and manage risk by planning 4. Make risk decisions at the right level
