Q

describe endometritis
-what it is
-signs
-affect of cycle
-treatment excl Abs

A

2 types:

  1. metritis - really bad-> systemic illness and fatal (very symptom
  2. endometritis - only affects endometrial
    -usually subclinical

Q

Why do beef cows have faster uterine involution but take longer to start cycling compared to dairy cows?

A

Dairy cows need to cycle faster to have mo

Lactional

Uterine involution: Driven by oxytocin. Have more oxytocin - because calf suckling multiple times a day vs dairy calf feeding twice a day.

Longer to start cycling - Because of the calf suckling = more oxytocin

Calf starting to wean will allow HPG axis to resume

Q

Re-breeding postpartum

A

Interval between parturition(or weaning) and re-breeding is carefully managed in livestock

Dairy - voluntary wait period

6
Q

importance of wait period

A

2

  1. allows time for uterine repair (higher chance of success)
  2. limit non-productive days (not lactating/pregnant)
