Joinder multiple defendants or plaintiffs
Rule 20(a)(1) allows multiple plaintiffs to join together if their claims have a common nucleus of operative facts and at least one question of law in common.
Rule 20(a)(2) allows multiple defendants to join together if the claims against them has a common nucleus of operative fact and at least one question of law in common.
Claim joinder by single plaintiff
Rule 18 allows a plaintiff to join any and all claims against a defendant in a single case.
Defendant compulsory counterclaim
If a defendant has a claim against the plaintiff that comes from the same nucleus of operative facts as the plaintiff’s claim, Rule 13(a) says they must bring it; even if that claim wouldn’t normally fit federal jurisdiction, supplemental jurisdiction holds
Permisive defendant Counter claim
if a defendant has a claim against the plaintiff that comes from a different nucleus of operative facts, Rule 13(b) lets them bring it but the court only hears it if subject matter jurisdiction exists on its own.
Defendant crossclaim
13g allows crossclaims from the same nucleus of operative facts, but its never compulsory.
