wanted their children to have a catholic education. this led to the creation of catholic schools in scotland

had poor wages due to discrimination by scottish employers as immigrants were willing to work for less. this led to them gaving less disposable income and forced them to settle in places like the slums of maryhill in glasgow meaning their experiences were often challenging

irish catholic immigrants lived in poor quality housing with little to no sanitation.this lead them to be often accused of spreading diseases

where used to break the scots strikes as they were often not memebers of trade unions. this lked to scots accusing them of lowering wages as they were willing to work for less than scots whicg meant that they struggled to assimilate into scottish society

mixed marriages across other communited. this led them being more welcomed and assimilated into scottish society

A

in small towns mixed marriages became more oif a thing across other communities. this led to irish protestants being more welcomed and assimilated into scottish society

they shared the same religon of majority of scots. this led to it being easier for protestant irish to be intergrated into society as they had ismilar values and religoys traditions as many protestant scots

scottish industries like shipbuilding employed main,y protestant workforce

the experience of jews

A

some second generation jewish immigrants were given opportunites from scotlands education system. this led to jewish immigrants being able to get good education and better themselves with many becoming doctors and lawyers and so increased their social status

jewish immigrants often worked in poorly paid jobs like tailoring/factory work. this led to them struggling and relying upon support from their community and having strong community links which meant that some jews experienced significant poverty

A

itilaians opened up ice cream parlours and fish and chip shops. this led to some scots getting on well with itlaians as they enjoyed the cusine allowing some italaians to assimilate fairly easily into scottish society.

some protestant scots disapproved of sunday traiding. this led to resejtment towards itialain who onwed cafes which meant some itialians were made to feel unwelcome and sturggled to fully assimilatie into scottish society

some changed their last name. this led to them assimiliating into scottish life more

the experience of lithuanians

A

Lithuanian immigrants mainly worked in heavy industries like iron steel and in particular coal mining. Many of these jobs came with tied accommodation this led to Lithuanians to settiling in these areas

Lithuanian immigrants between 18 and 41 who lived in Britain had to either fight in the British army in WW1 or face deportation to Russia to fight there. this led to many choosing to leave
