knee joint
fibular (lateral) collateral ligament
-extends inferiorly from the lateral epicondyle of femur to the lateral surface of the head of the fibula
Tibial (medial) collateral ligament
Posterior cruciate ligament
-stronger of two cruciate ligaments
anterior cruciate ligament
-arises from intercondylar area of tibia, extends superiorly, posteriorly and laterally to attach to the posterior part of the medial side of the lateral condyle of the femur
-prevents posterior displacement of femur on the tibia
-stabilizes knee during flexion
transverse ligament of knee
runs across front of knee and joins anterior edges of the menisci
popliteus
posterior ligament of fibular head
attaches fibula to lateral condyle of tibia
meniscus
lateral meniscus : more oval shaped
medial meniscus : more C shaped
genu varum
bow legged, lateral angle of knee joint
genu valgum
medial angle of knee joint
