persistent sexual thoughts, fantasies, urgers, behaviours involving pre-pubertal children

individual must have acted on these OR be markedly distressed by them

doesn’t apply to sexual behaviours among pre- or post- pubertal children with peers close in age

what is the DSM-V criteria for paedophilia

A

recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, urges or behaviours involving a prepubescent child or children (usually under 13 yos)

present for more than 6 months

has acted on urges or is greatly distressed/impaired by them

more than sixteen years old and more than five years older than target child (but excluding an older adolescent who is in an ongoing relationship with a 12/13 yo????????)

sexual offenses against children is higher than the sexual preference reported for children (0.1% exclusive/0.6% nonexclusive)

12.3% of all men indicating paedophilic interest/50% men with genuine preference for children over adults have thought about help seeking

greater number of sexual offenses against children WEREN’T committed by pedophilic men

A

recognises its a sexual orientation that affects an estimated 1% of the adult male population in Germany and elsewhere

he reaches out to paedophiles and gives them therapeutic tools including pharmaceutical options, to stop them from sexually abusing children

can also take medication to lower testosterone
