What is salvage
Salvage is the act of rendering assistance to a vessel or its cargo in danger at sea. The legal and operational framework for salvage is governed by international conventions such as the International Convention on Salvage 1989, UNCLOS Article 98, and SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 33

Immediate Actions on Distress:
1. Acknowledge the distress – may come via DSC, MAYDAY call, sighting, or EPIRB signal. 2. Inform the Master and record time, position, and details. 3. Plot position of casualty on the chart or ECDIS. 4. Assess distance, weather, and safety of own vessel. 5. Establish communication on VHF Ch.16 or 70 (DSC). 6. Proceed to assist if safe and ordered by the Master. 7. Maintain a full log of all events and communications.
