Define ammunition by Legal and Technical Definition.
Legal Definition (Definition of ammunition may be found in Chapter VII, Sec.290 of the national Internal Revenue Code and in Sec. 877 of the Revised Administrative Code). Shall mean loaded shell for rifles, muskets, carbines, shotguns, revolvers, and pistol from which a bullet, ball, shot, shell or other missiles maybe fired by means of gunpowder or other explosives. The term also Includes ammunition for air rifle as mentioned elsewhere in this code.
Technical Definition- Refers to a complete unfired unit consisting of bullet, primer, cartridge case and gunpowder. It also refers to metallic cartridges or shot shells
Enumerate and Discuss the different parts of cartridges:
- Bullet- is the projectile propelled through the barrel of firearm by means of the expansive force of gas corning from the burning powder.
- Cartridge Case- the tubular metallic container for the gunpowder Sometimes called “shell” or casing. Brass/Bullet casing
- Gunpowder- the powder charge which, when ignited by the primer flash, is converted to heated gas under high pressure and propels the bullet of shots charge to the barrel and to the target. Sometimes called “propellant” or “powder charge”
- Primer- the metal cup containing the highly sensitive priming mixture of chemical compound, which when hit or stuck by the finng pin would ignite. Such as called “percussion”

CLASSIFICATION OF CARTRIDGE
(According to the Type of Firearms Used):
- Revolver cartridge
- Pistol cartridge
- Rifle Cartridge
- Shotgun Shot Shells
CLASSIFICATION OF CARTRIDGE (According to Location of Primers):
- Pin-fire cartridge- These cartridges were made for all types of small arm and in two or three types of case combination The percussion had a pin resting on its detonating compound. The end protruding of the pin is hit by a hammer coming down vertically from its rear. This type of cartridge is no longer used.
- Rim-fire cartridge- The name “rim-fire” is derived from the fact that this type can be fired only if the cartridge is struck by the hammer or firing pin on the rim of the case. In these type, the “primer” is located around the rim of the cartridge or rear of the case rim.
- Center-fire cartridge- In these type of cartridge, the location of the primer is on the center of the base of the cartridge.
