flood light: Can add colour but can’t shape the beam or add a gobo

Fresnel: directional lens. Can make the beam bigger or smaller by moving the lamp closer or further away from the lens: barn doors on front direct the light and can have a gel

profile: a spot light. Smooth lens x2. Focus can create hard or soft edged beam. Gobo can be attached and colour added

• shutters: internal plates which focus the light
• gobo: metal cut out creating a specific shape or effect used in a profile lantern
• practicals: lights which are onstage and operated by an actor
• gel: colour
• open white: lantern with out a gel
