- avoid axillary crutches

Patient controlled analgesia
- electronically controlled pump that delivers IV pain meds when the pt presses a button
- system automatically stops providing medication at a set level to avoid overdose

What is a nasogastric tube?
inserted through the nasal passages to the stomach to remove the stomach contents (when attached to suction)
- printed with measurements that can help identify movement once placed
- often taped to nose
What are NG tube precautions?

- often can be temporarily disconnected for mobility

provides a portal for long-term tube feeding
