What is localisation?
The theory that different areas of the brain are responsible for different behaviours, processes, or activities.
What are the 4 key areas?
Motor area
Somatosensory area
Visual area
Auditory area
MOTOR AREA
Where is this located?
both sides of FRONTAL LOBE
MOTOR AREA
What is the function?
It controls voluntary movement
- left frontal lobe would control movement on right side of the body
MOTOR AREA
What would happen if this area is damaged?
lost of control over fine movements
SOMATOSENSORY AREA
Where is this located?
front of both sides of PARIETAL LOBES
SOMATOSENSORY AREA
What is the function?
Receives sensory information from skin to produce sensations related to pressure, pain, temperature, etc.
SOMATOSENSORY AREA
What would happen if this is damaged?
lead to loss of sensation in hands/face
- numbness
VISUAL AREA
Where is this located?
back of the brain
occipital lobe
VISUAL AREA
What is its function?
Receives and processes visual information
- information from RVF is processed in left hemisphere
VISUAL AREA
What would happen if this area is damaged?
Damage to one hemisphere causes blindness in one eye
AUDITORY AREA
Where is this located?
temporal lobe
AUDITORY AREA
What is the function?
analyses speech and sound
AUDITORY AREA
What would happen if this area is damaged?
