What altitude should you fly if you have Lost Comms?

Answer 1

Fly the highest of MEA.

M - Minimum as prescribed for IFR
E - Expected. (as in: “Expect 5000 10 min after departure”)
A - Assigned. Last assigned altitude by ATC

What route should you fly if you have Lost Comms?

Answer 2

Select the route by this order.

A - Assigned Route, if none:
V - Vectored (fly to fix/route/airway last vectored to), if none:
E - Last expected route by ATC, if none:
F - Filed Route

Question 3

When leaving a clearance limit at a fix from which the approach begins, when may you begin you descent?

Answer 3

• Start the descent and approach as close as possible to the EFC, or ETA (if no EFC given)

Question 4

When leaving a clearance limit where the fix does not begin the approach, when may you begin your descent?

Answer 4

• At EFC or clearance limit (if no EFC given), proceed to a fix from which an approach begins and start the approach
