Resource
Something that is needed and valued - the three key resources are food, water and energy
Resource Management
To control and monitor our resources so they do not become exhausted and run out
Natural/Primary resource
Recourses that come from the Earth (eg. water, air, fish)
Basic resources
Resources that we would die without (eg. water, air, food)
Manufacturing resources
Resources that are made by people, often from natural/primary resources (eg. table, clothes, steel)
Non-renewable/finite resources
Resources that we cannot make more of once they run out (eg. North Sea gas, iron ore, coal)
Renewable/infinite resources
Resources that we can recycle or grow more of (eg. wind, solar)
Lithosphere
Solid earth (eg. rocks, volcanoes, mountains, river beds)
Biosphere
All living things (eg. plants, animals, biomes, humans)
Hydrosphere
All water (eg. oceans, seas, riviera, glaciers, ice, snow, rain)
Atmosphere
All gases in the air (eg. troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere)
Coal
A rock that formed from the remain of plants, not renewable
Oil
A dark liquid formed by dead organic matter on the sea bed not renewable
Natural gas
A gas formed by dead organic matter on the sea bed not renewable
Nuclear
Uranium atoms that split and create heat and energy, not renewable
Hydro
A large amount of trapped water that is allowed to flow, renewable
Wind
Energy from the movement of the air, renewable
Solar
Energy from the light given off by the nearest star (the sun), renewable
Biomass
Energy from living things and organic matter, renewable
Geo-thermal
Heat generated from deep within the Earth, renewable
Tidal
Energy from the flow of the water caused by the Moon, renewable
Wave
Energy from the movement of the water caused by the wind, renewable
Advantages of fossil fuels
Disadvantages of fossil fuels
