Nymphs Swimmers
Slim and streamlined. Minnow shaped. Swim using three pronged tail of fine hairs. Hide among rocks, pebbles, and grass in slow water near fast water.
Nymph Clingers
Flat, wide bodies with prominent head. Live in fast water on rocks
Nymph Crawlers
Similar to swimmers but found in faster water and in lakes
Nymph Burrowers
Found in soft silt or sand. Use upturned mandibles to dig U shaped burrow.
Emergers
Have husk behind bodies as they float to surface. Lift wings on surface of water or shore to harden. Leave exoskeleton on nearby vegetation in last molt.
Adults
Referred to as spinners. Clear wings. Sailboat like.
