I studied the simple, excellent poem, ‘Mo Ghrá-sa (inter lúibíní)’.
Rinne mé staidéar ar an dán simplí, den scoth, ‘Mo Ghrá-sa (idir lúibíní)’.
The poet uses beautiful language to convey her message to us.
Baineann an file an-úsáid as friotal álainn chun a teachtaireacht a thabhairt dúinn.
The poem is a satire on the old love poems, but the main theme of the poem is love.
Is aoir é an dán ar na seandánta grá, ach is é grá príomhthéama an dáin.
I see the theme through the images, metaphors and humour in it.
Feicim an téama trí na híomhánna, na meafair agus an greann ann
She insults him to the top of the sky but it is clear that she is under his spell and despite his flaws, he is perfect for her.
Maslaíonn sí é go hard na spéire ach Tá sé léir go bhfuil sí faoi gheasa aige agus in ainneoin a lochtanna, tá sé foirfe di.
Point: There are images from nature throughout this poem. The poet compares the man to the flower of the daisies and the daisies.
Pointe: Tá íomhánna ón dúlra fud fad (ar fud) an dáin seo. Cuireann an file an fear i gcomparáid le bláth na n-airní agus nóiníní.
Explanation: This is a common flower, available in any garden.
Míniú: Is gnáthbhláth é seo, ar fáil in aon ghairdín.
Comment: The poet says that this boring flower is more beautiful than her man. She is making fun of his appearance. We see the poet’s sense of humor.
Tuairim: Deir an file go bhfuil an bláth leadránach seo níos áille ná a fear. Tá sí ag magadh a chuma. Feicimid féith ghrinn an fhile.
Point: She continues the snarky description when she mentions his eyes and hair. She paints a funny picture for us of eyes that are too close together and hair that looks like string.
Pointe: Leanann sí leis an gcur síos magúil nuair a luann sí a shúile is a ghruaig. Tarraingíonn sí pictiúr greannmhar dúinn de shúile atá róghar dá chéile agus gruaig atá cosúil le sreang.
Explanation: She criticizes his physical characteristics.
Míniú: Cáineann sí a thréithe fisiciúla.
Comment: It is clear to us that this man is not handsome, at all.
Tuairim: Is léir dúinn nach bhfuil an fear seo dathúil, ar bith.
Point: In the last verse, we get a positive view of this poor man.
Pointe: Sa véarsa deireaneach, faighimid dearcadh dearfach den fhear bocht seo.
Comment: She creates a more positive image of the man, here.
She talks about ‘apples’ and ‘grapes’.
Tuairim: Cruthaíonn sí íomhá níos deise ar an bhfear, anseo. Labhraíonn sí faoi ‘úlla’ agus ‘caora finiúna’.
Explanation: These fruits are metaphors for the man’s qualities. She praises him, saying that he is kind, generous and generous to her.
Míniú: Is meafair iad na torthaí seo do thréithe an fhir. Molann sí é ag rá go bhfuil sé cneasta, cineálta agus flaithiúil di.
the poet shows an interesting and clear account of her love. Through this poem, she portrays her true feelings for him and at the end of the day, this is a love poem.
taispeann an bhfile an cuntas spéisiúil agus soiléir a thabhairt dúinn ar a grá. Tríd an dán seo, leirionn sí a fíormhothúcháin dó agus ag deireadh an lae, is dán grá é seo.
