Right to Beneficence
-imposes duty on researchers to minimize harm and maximize benefits
-the most fundamental
-protect from harm and explotation
Includes
1. freedom from harm and discomfort (shouldn’t be exposed to situations that would cause harm)
2. freedom from exploitation (info will be kept private and won’t be used against them)
3. Risk benefit ratio: (benefit to the participant must out weight costs)
Principles of respect for human dignity
- includes:
- right to self determination (participants are to be treated as autonomus agents, right to stop or continue without punishment)
- Right to full disclosure (ensure they know what they are getting into, know the type of study and the the researchers responsibility)
- informed Consent (sometimes avoided because it can alter the outcomes of the test, must protect their rights and provide consent, can be written or oral and reassure them that refusing will not cause punishment)
Informed Consent
- give them process, proceduew and duration
- state any risks
- info so participant can contact the researcher
- state that participation is 100% voluntary and that their will be no repercussions if they refuse at any moment
- offer to provide a summary of the findings
Principles of Justice
- right to fair treatment (fairly treated before during and after the research study)
