The external stimuli and internal mechanisms that arouse and direct our behaviour
What are the two types of motivation?
Extrinsic and intrinsic motivation
What is extrinsic motivation and what are the two types of extrinsic motivation?
This comes from an outside source and is the drive we have to achieve external rewards
Tangible - e.g. winning a trophy, badge or certificate
Intangible - e.g. praise from a coach
What is intrinsic motivation?
This is the drive from within and includes the pride and satisfaction we might experience if we have a good game. Can be promoted by achieving personal goals such as PB in athletics
Why is intrinsic motivation the most important?
What may happen if extrinsic rewards are not achieved or are achieved excessively?
