What is the Terminal Operators duty every 90 days/31 days of inactivity?
Ensure his/her password is changed in order to prevent expiration of the LOGON ID.
What should you do when a mistake is made?
Notify TAC of the situation immediately.
Any time a mistake is made that might jeopardize the continued use of the NCIC/NLETS terminal, the TAC is notified immediately to advise him/her of the situation.
What will information obtained be classified as?
“Sensitive/CUI” and released only to authorized personnel.
If you need information retained, how will it be secured?
it will be secured in an envelope and marked as case notes.
At no time will this information be reproduced and sent with a case file.
What is the process for missing persons/runaway juveniles?
Entered into NCIC as soon as sufficient information is obtained and missing status is confirmed.
What will happen of a statewide warrant exist?
Non-military will not be detained if and when a TO determines a statewide warrant exists on the individual.
The individual will be kept occupied or asked to stand-by while the BDOC contacts the police department making the entry and determines whether they will dispatch an officer to make an arrest or to release the individual. The SF will not detain or apprehend civilian personnel for statewide warrants.
What will happen if statewide warrant exists and state police decide not to respond?
TA will modify the record to reflect the time, date, and circumstances
of the contact.
The individual’s address and personal information will be verified with the existing records, and the most current information will be entered into the statewide warrant comment field. The individual will be advised of the outstanding warrant and released.
What are the procedures for protective orders?
Protective orders are issued by Utah courts and provided for informational purposes. If a situation arises that a person is suspected of violating a protective order issued within the state of Utah, the legal office will be contacted for further guidance.
What happens when NCIC/NLETS is misused?
TO will be placed on a mandatory one month probationary period. If, during the probation period, another incident occurs that is familiar TO will be denied access and their LOGON ID removed from the system.
TO will also complete remedial training.
