The number of GP training places will be increased by 50% to 6,000 by 2031/32. The number of GP specialty training places will be increased to 5,000 a year by 2027/28. The first 500 new places will be available from September 2025.

• Double the number of medical school training places, 15,000 a year by 2031/32, with more medical school places in areas with the greatest shortages.
