Employees 16 yrs old - 18 must either
-stay in full time education
-start an apprenticeship or traineeship
-spend 20+ hrs per week working or volunteering while in part time education/training
What counts as working time:
-at work and required to be working
-on standby nr workplace (dont include restbreaks)
-not working cause of machine breakdown but kept at workplace
-waiting to collect goods, meet someone for work
-travelling in connection with work, including travelling from one assignment to another
-training or travelling to training
-at work & under certain work related responsibilities, even when allowed to sleep
What isn’t working time
-travel between home & work
- away from work on rest break, holiday, sick leave or mat leave
-on industrial action
-not working but available to work
What are the 4 different types of workers with regard to how they are paid
-Time work: paid by the hour
-Salaried hours: paid in annual salary
-Output work, paid by the piece: paid by number of things they make
-Unmeasured: paid in other ways
What is included in pay
-Tax & NIC
-wage advances or loans & repayments
-things the worker paid for that are not needed for the job; ie: meals
-Penalty charge for workers misconduct, max 10%
-Accommodation above offset rate: £10.66 pd/£74.62 pw
