Describe a time when you analyzed financial data to make a recommendation or solve a problem.

A

S: Branches across organization producing unstandardized PnLs
T: Create a Excel model that is able to standardize PnL’s
A: Frequent model checks throughout building, i.e inputting random line items in model and checking if numbers pulled is correct, checking if PnL totals add up etc.
R: Presented model to upper leadership, was used as a tool in conversations with branch managers

How do you ensure accuracy and attention to detail when working with large sets of financial data?

A

S: Branches across organization producing unstandardized PnLs
T: Create a Excel model that is able to standardize PnL’s
A: After finishing model, i was receiving an error on my model. To resolve this, i broke down my model piece by piece to determine exactly which part of the model is broken
R: Was able to identify that there was an error regarding the information being pulled into the model, and was able to quickly resolve the issue

Tell me about a time you had to work with a team to complete a finance-related project or meet a tight deadline

A

S: operator onboarding form the guide to give to each operator at the start of employment, however the current rendition was very outdated
T: update operator onboarding form with current information alongside other interns
A: Ideas clashed, but eventually sat down and had discussion regarding overall direction
R: cleaned up document that is in use by the organization today

Give me an example of when you had to explain a complex financial concept to someone without a finance background. How did you ensure they understood

A

S: End of internship meeting with SLT to go over highlights of internship
T: explain tasks of internship, some of which that were very finance based, to a team of leaders across all departments of the organization
A: Started with high level explanation, begin with explaining what the problem is, and what my approach to addressing the problem is/
R: Several leaders came up to me afterwards and said that I did a fantastic job and had a strong understanding of the business
