SCREENING

• ALL babies are screened for congenital cataracts at birth
• then again when they are 6–8 weeks of age.

URGENT REFERRAL to an ophthalmologist!!!!!

Features:

1. The presence of an opacity in the red reflex.
2. Absence of any reflex.
3. A white pupillary reflex (LEUKOCORIA).
