Henoch-Schonlein Purpura
A
- HSP
- Most common vasculitis in kids
- Due to IgA immune complex deposition
- Presentation: palpable purpura on buttocks and legs
- GI pain and bleeding
- Hematuria (IgA nephropathy)—involvement of kidney is very high yield
- Usually occurs following an upper respiratory tract infection—one of the antibodies you generate is IgA
- IgA deposition drives the vasculitis!
- Disease is self-limited
- If severe, treat with steroids

Nephritic: think loss of blood (example-Immune complex deposition)
