1. Use the kettle to boil water and then put 80 ml of the hot water into a 100 ml beaker and place the small (100 ml) beaker inside the larger one
2. Use a piece of cardboard, with a hole for a thermometer as a lid, insert the thermometer through the hole in the cardboard lid so the bulb is in the hot water.
3. Record the temp of the water and start the stop watch, record the temp for the water every 5 mins for 20 mins
4. Repeat these steps but this time fill the space between the beakers with an insulator
5. Draw a cooling cure for each and use the graph to find the best insulator

1. Measure and record the mass of the copper block in kg, place the heater in the large hole in the block, and connect the ammeter, power pack and heater in series.
2. Put a small amount for water in the small hole in and put the thermometer
3. Switch the power bank on at 12v and record the ammeter and voltmeter reading and measure the temp and start the stopwatch
4. Record the temp every 10 mins, time is measured in seconds, when recorded
5. Calculate the power and work done plot a graph of temp against work done and draw a line of best fit.

1. Connect the circuit to the length of wire
2. Connect the ammeter and voltmeter across the resistance wire
3. Take measurements of length and amps and volts =, move the clip and take readings every 10cm from 10cm to 100cm

2. Redord the amps and volts and then change the resistance of the variable resistor and take the readings

5. Plot the graph

1. Attach the 2 clamps to the clamp stand, the top clamp should be further out tha the lower one, plac ehte clamp near the edge of the table, attatch the ruler and attach the splint to the spring, add a weight to the clamp stand, as shown in the image
2. Take the readings with no weight, add a one newton weight and take readings, add more weights taking recordings

1. Set up the ripple tank, with a large sheet of white paper or card under the tank, pour 5mm of the water into the tank
2. Adjust the height of the wooden rod so that it is just touching the surface of the water, switch on the overhead lamp and the electric motor
3. Adjust the speed of the motor so that low freq water water waves are produced, adjust the height of the lamp so that the waves are shown on the floor
4. Measure across and count as many waves as possible and divide the length of the waves by the number of them
5. Count the waves passing a point in a specific time (like 10 seconds) and calculate freq, calculate speed using its equation

1. Set up the apparatus as shown below
2. Switch on the vibration generator
3. Adjust the tension of the string or move the wooden bridge to adjust the length of the string until a clear wave can be seen
4. Use a meter ruler to measure across as many half wavelengths as possible then divide the total length by the number of half wavelengths. Multiply this number by 2
5. The freq is that of the power supply, calc the wave speed with its equation

1. Place the Leslie cube onto a heatproof mat and fill the cube with very hot water afterwards replace the lid of the cube
2. Use the detector to measure the amount of ir radiation from each surface, make sure that before the reading is taken the detector is the same distance from each surface
3. Draw a bra chart to show the amount of ir radiation against the type of surface

2. Use a piece of cardboard with a hole in for the thermometer as a lid, insert the thermometer through the hole in the lid so that its bulb is in the hot water
3. Record the temp and start the stopwatch.
4. Record the temp for the water every 5 mins for 20 mins.
5. Repeat these steps but every time wrap one more layer of insulating material around the beaker, hold them in place by using a rubber band.
6. Draw a cooling curve for each material you choose.
