What processes cause a pothole
Vertical erosion as they occur in the upper course where it is high above base level (high gpe).
Abrasion- pebbles carried by the river are swirled around the river bed
How are potholes formed
The actions erode the rock on the river bed forming potholes. Over time they may widen and join with others to form one large pothole. The whole river bed is widened.
