Engine Shutdown

  1. Identify affected engine (split the ball, raise the dead)
  2. Left mixture to cutoff
  3. Engine Failure Checklist push em up, clean em up, identify, verify, feather
  4. Push em up: R mix, props, throttles, full forward Clean em up: Flaps Up/Gear Up Identify: Dead foot dead engine Verify: left throttle idle Feather: left prop full feather
  5. Secure as time permits
    a) left fuel selector-simulated off
    b) left alternator-simulate off
    c) left magneto-simulate off
    Land ASAP (simulate discuss nearest airport

Engine Restart

  1. Left Magneto-simulate BOTH
  2. Left Alternator-simulate ON
  3. Left Fuel Selector-simulate AUX
  4. Left Prop-full forward
  5. Left Prop-midrange after rotation
  6. Left Mixture-Full FWD
  7. Left Throttle-15” until cyl temp in green
  8. Upon reaching green CHT-left prop full forward, scissor throttles 20”

A

Left throttle will be pulled to IDLE by Instructor.
Split the ball raise the dead
Push em up: mixtures, props, right throttle forward
Clean em up: confirm Flaps/Gear Up
Identify: dead foot dead engine
Verify: simulate left throttle IDLE
Feather: simulate feather
Announce “secure as time permits”
Continue approach
